What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

As you study the scriptures, you will grow closer to God and be better able to live righteously. Scripture study will bring you more joy, hope, and understanding of God's plan and your place in that plan.

Jesus Christ invites you to "feast" upon His words. This means more than casually reading the scriptures. It means to study them, ponder them, compare verses, learn passages by heart, treasure them, delight in them.

As you feast upon the scriptures, prayerfully asking God for understanding, the Holy Ghost will let you know they are true. You will grow closer to God. Your faith in and love for Jesus Christ will increase. So will your desire to do good and to be like Him.

It's said that we speak to God through prayer, he speaks to us through the scriptures. As we pray we can ask for help, peace, or understanding. When we turn to the scriptures, we can receive the help we are looking for, we can find peace, we can gain a greater understanding of our life.

There is power in words. The words of God and his servants, who wrote the scriptures, have power to teach, inspire, call to repent, delight, and comfort. When you fill your mind and heart with scripture passages and imagery you protect your spirit and you fortify your emotions. You are strengthened in all ways by taking the scriptures into yourself. There is nothing else that will do you more good than regular, serious immersion in the scriptures and other inspired works such as hymns and addresses by general authorities.
